Our Competitive Dance Team filmed their 2021 Competition Routines on March 14 for our 9th Annual Showcase Performance taking place in a virtual format this year. Despite all of the setbacks from the past year, our dancers have shown up for class whether in-person or online, to make their routines sparkle and shine for this year.
Each and every year our competitive students debut their competition routines for their friends and family at our Showcase performance. Usually our Showcase would take place at Woodstock’s Market Centre Theatre in late February/ early March. But with the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic, this was not an option. So we did what we do best – made some lemonade with this lemon situation!
We transformed one of our studios to become a stage for our dancers to perform. Creating a simple backdrop, adding some theatre lights and hiring a professional film crew, helped to create that professional ambiance of performance.
Our dancers showed up with their full hair and make-up complete, costumes steamed and shoes shined for their performance. Our dancers took their time rehearsing and warming-up before heading onto the stage. Unlike a live performance, our dancers had 10-15 minutes to capture their routines from different angles, various lighting options and make sure they nailed their dances of course!
Our competition team continues to inspire me every year with their dedication, commitment and enthusiasm. By Showcase time this year, our dancers had not only overcome issues with injury, family emergencies and the regular challenges of dance class. But they learned to adapt, pivot and explore what dance class and being on the competition team means to them. They had to continue with the same drive and work ethic for their online classes as they did in person. Our dancers met each and every challenge with the grace and perseverance that dance has taught them over the years.
At Footprints Dance Centre we compete to empower our dancers through inclusion, acceptance and sportsmanship with their true dance family. Each year I am reminded of how our dancers embody this vision as we step into Showcase and greet our competitive year with a smile on our face and glitter in our hair!
