Competitive Dance Team (Ages 5-18)

The competitive division is an opportunity for students wishing to pursue dance in a serious manner to explore various genres of dance. Our program not only provides top-quality dance instruction, but also creates an environment where students can develop self-esteem, self-discipline, self-confidence, the ability to work with others and the ability to follow directions. The Competitive Dance Team competes throughout Ontario and performs in our annual recital at year-end. 

Along with the prestige and highly accelerated learning that is part of being a member of our Competitive Dance Team, there are numerous responsibilities that both parents and dancers should consider:

  • Competitive students must have excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Competitive students must participate in all competitions
  • Competitive students must be able to participate in community events
  • Competitive students must maintain a high degree of self-discipline and motivation as being a member of the Competitive Team is a privilege
  • Competitive students must attend at least 1 summer intensive camp at the studio (if pursuing solos/duets/trios), as well as our Competitive Intensive Week in August

We are proud to offer FIVE different levels of our Competitive Team for our 2022- 2023 season. Dancers will be placed into each team at the discretion of the FDC staff. 

Little Gems Team

Our newest program! ‘Little Gems’ is the perfect opportunity for those Tulips and young Minis who are interested in taking a peek at the competitive dance experience. This team will compete in a mandatory Ballet group and Jazz group at two local competitions. These dancers will also participate in one ballet exam. We recommend dancers enroll in at least one other recreational (tulip/mini) class- for example Tap. 

Required Weekly Training Hours: 2.25 hours

  • 45 Min Exam Ballet (Monday)
  • 45 Min Tech Jazz (Friday)
  • 45 Min Tech Ballet (Friday)

Amethyst Team

This program is perfect for dancers who are wanting to dip their toes into the competitive dance world. This team will compete in a mandatory jazz group, ballet group, tap group at three local competitions. These dancers will participate in one ballet exam and one jazz exam. 

Required Weekly Training Hours: 4 hours

  • 45 Min Exam Ballet (Monday)
  • 45 Min Exam Jazz (Monday)
  • 45 Min Tech Jazz (Friday)
  • 45 Min Tech Tap (Friday)
  • 1 Hour Tech Ballet (Friday) 

Sapphire Team

Our Sapphire Team is for dancers who are interested in diving a little more fully into the world of competition dance. This team will compete in mandatory jazz, tap and ballet groups at four local competitions. These dancers will also participate in ballet, tap and jazz exams. Our Sapphire Team has the option of adding additional routines in the form of specialty small and large groups, trios, duets or solos. Additional choreography may be scheduled on weekdays or weekends.

  • 1 Hour Tech Jazz (Friday)

Emerald Team

Our Emerald Team is for dancers who are becoming more invested in their dance training. This team will compete in mandatory jazz, tap and lyrical groups at four local competitions. These dancers will also participate in ballet, tap and jazz exams. Our Emerald Team has the option of adding additional routines in the form of specialty small or large groups, trios, duets or solos. Additional choreography may be scheduled on weekdays or weekends. 

Required Weekly Training Hours: 5.5 Hours

  • 45 Min Exam Tap (Monday)
  • 45 Min Exam Ballet (Monday)
  • 1.25 Hours Tech Jazz (Friday)
  • 1 Hour Tech Tap (Friday)

Diamond Team

Our Diamond Team is for dancers who are invested in their dance training. This team will compete in mandatory jazz, tap and ballet groups at local competitions. These dancers will also participate in ballet, tap and jazz exams. Our Diamond Team has the option of adding additional routines in the form of specialty small or large groups, trios, duets or solos. Additional choreography may be scheduled on weekdays or weekends.

 Required Weekly Training Hours: 5.75
