As our 2021/2022 Recital School Year is drawing to a close, about to wrap up with the first live recital we have been able to host in 3 years… we can’t help but feel overcome with emotions!

The last 2 years have been hard on us all, for a lot of different reasons. But one thing that was made abundantly clear to each and every one of us is the power and importance of connection and community in our lives. We are so incredibly grateful and relieved to be back in our studio and back in our happy place. Dance class provides a safe space for us all to express our emotions and our creativity while surrounded by a community of like-minded friends who share the same passions with us. We can’t say it enough, it is just SO GOOD to be back! And this year, we are FINALLY able to mount our year end recital!

Recital is such an exciting opportunity to bond even more with our classmates and friends while feeling the rush and excitement of performing up on stage! And this year is a first for a lot of our dancers! There is nothing quite like that feeling of butterflies while you wait excitedly in the wings for your moment to shine; the feeling of applause and recognition and the feeling of pride when the moment is done. There’s just nothing quite like the stage. And there is nothing quite like being in the buzzing auditorium of a live performance! We missed it so much! It is wild to think that we have dancers who have been a part of our studio family for 3 years now and this will be their first time experiencing a recital! We are so excited for them and for all of our dancers in their upcoming show, A Decade of Dance, which is also a celebration of our 10 years in business at Footprints Dance Centre! What a wild and incredible 10 years it has been!

With all this excitement and emotion, we couldn’t help but theme this month’s Wingman Week activity around just that! In celebration of such an awesome year back in the swing of dance, we lined the mirrors in each studio with craft paper and gave each of our dancers some markers and a few minutes to reflect on their favourite memories from the year. Some wrote about the fun events they got to take part in, like the studio Spa Day and The Nutcracker Holiday Performance. Others wrote about silly stories that came from class. The papers were covered in doodles, inside jokes, and messages of love. It is always amazing to be reminded of how little things (like silly games, exercises, or funny class moments) can mean so much to our dancers. As always, we are proud and honored to be a part of their dance journey.
