On Sunday November 25 the Footprints Family road tripped to see The Nutcracker Spectacular. Two of our very own dancers starred in the production and we were happy to support them!
Why “Field Trips”?
At Footprints Dance Centre we believe in the principle of whole dance education. To us, we do not want to just educate our dancers to ball change battement with the best of them, we want our dancers to explore really explore what dance is and what it means to them.
To gain a greater understanding of dance we encourage our dancers to experience dance outside of the studio. This includes providing our dancers the opportunity to visit dance themed exhibits (like Woodstock Art Gallery’s Evelyn Hart exhibit), to dance workshops (like Dance Attack Workshop) and to professional dance experiences. In the past we have seen Cirque de Soleil, Shaping Sound and Sleeping Beauty. On Sunday November 25 we road tripped to the First Ontario Arts Centre in Milton to see The Dance Class present The Nutcracker Spectacular!
The Nutcracker Spectacular!
Going to the show was open to any Footprints dancer or parent who wished to attend. Rides were coordinated and everyone arrived smoothly. Getting to see our dancers (and teachers) outside of the regular sweaty, messy ponytail and leggings is always a treat! Our dancers certainly cleaned up well!
As the lights dimmed and the music swelled the excitement from our dancers was clear. Not many of our dancers had ever experienced a dance show before. All of our dancers were super excited to see two of our very own dancers on stage as well!
The Nutcracker is a timeless holiday tradition in the dance world. The original Russian Nutcracker premiered in 1892. Since then many dance companies have recreated the classic tale. From The National Ballet of Canada and the New York City Ballet to many studio productions as well.
The cast and crew of The Nutcracker Spectacular did an incredible job capturing the story of the classic Nutcracker while adding in their own twists. Showcasing other genres among the classical ballet style gave the old style a current twist. They also included a number of local artists to collaborate. The magician as the Uncle was a cool treat!
Thank you to all of the families who came out and supported our two dancers in this production. It was a great afternoon for all!
