This week kicked off our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Woodstock. Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has been creating change in the lives of many children and adults in Oxford County. BBBS and us have very similar beliefs and values.

BBBS believes that every child should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Their mentors teach by example the importance of giving back, staying-in school and being respectful of their families, schools and communities. This is common ground for us at Footprints. We too believe that all of our dancers deserve the opportunity to shine in their own right. Our staff strives to set the best sort of example as being leading role models throughout the studio and the community.

We believe that we have a responsibility to educate our dancers not only physical but emotionally and mentally as well. We want our dancers to be able to chasse and ball change, high kick with the best of them but we also want our dancers to learn what it means to be a respectful teammate, a great friend and a hard working person.

Working with BBBS has also a personal connection to me and my family. One of my older brothers was fortunate enough to be selected as a Big and had an incredible time working with his Little and this agency. I have always wanted to reach out to this amazing community group with some kind of partnership program and it is finally happening!

The SOAR program allows Littles that are waiting to be matched with a Big the opportunity to explore various activities outside of the BBBS location. Our FDC Littles will be joining us for the course of 8 weeks from March to April. Over the two hour class the FDC Littles will learn about hip-hop, jazz and Broadway style dancing from our wonderful staff member, Miss Rebekka. The course will then finish with an informal showing of the work that our FDC Littles have accomplished over the 8 weeks.

We are so excited to have these new dancers join our Footprints Family! Keep your eyes on our Facebook and Instagram to see the progress that these little dancers make.
