You have all seen her in action with our little 3-4 year old dancers, but now it is time to get a little more acquainted with our favourite dancing bunny – Teacup!

When beginning to redesign our Under Six program it was super important to Miss Lainy to keep all of our classes in a fun and structured environment. It doesn’t take much for a group of high-spirited three year olds to quickly erupt into chaos or for “boring” ballet mood to take over. Therefore, we needed something, or rather someone, to keep our littles on track and wanting to keep working hard. Thus a little dancing friend needed to come along with our teachers into class…

But who or what would be best?

A monkey? Nope. That’s going to end up with the class going bananas…

A cat or dog? Nope. They will just bark and meow and crawl around on all fours…

How about a bunny… Bunnies are quiet and they also represent good luck, creativity and spontaneity – three things every dance teacher needs when entering into a room of 3 and 4 year olds!

So a bunny was decided. How fun!

Teacup helps our dancers learn to take turns, show technique and learn vocabulary. A special dance with Teacup during our Freeze Dance time is an extra special reward for outstanding progress in class too. Teacup helps to keep our students on track and gives them an extra bright bit of fun in class too. Sometimes she does sneaky things like move Miss Lainy’s scarves around or change her music!

Collaborating with artist, Danielle Wetselaar helped to bring the more educational aspects of Teacup into the classroom and home. Once a month our students receive colouring pages featuring their favourite dancing bunny, Teacup! Each colouring page displays Teacup practicing one of our steps on an exciting adventure backdrop. From an enchanted starry night to a trip to the zoo – Teacup brings the magic of dance everywhere she goes!
