As we enter into a new year of dance in Woodstock at Footprints we are excited to begin introducing our staff to you. Each one of our dance teachers have done a little Q&A to help you get to know them better. In this blog post you will meet Miss Olivia!
Miss Olivia is an enthusiastic new addition to Footprints Dance Centre. Along with nineteen years of dance training and competition, she was also a successful graduate of the Regional Arts Program majoring in dance at Cawthra Park Secondary School.
In addition to training in all the dance genres, she also performed with the Mississauga Power cheerleading team adding a unique style of dance to her teaching repertoire. She has received a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Sheridan College and she is also continuing her education in her second year of ADAPT as well as Acrobatic Arts.
Olivia is thrilled to be bringing her love of dance to Footprints Dance Centre and cannot wait to share her passion for the art with the next generation of dancers.
Check out Miss Lainy’s Q&A with Miss Olivia below to learn a bit more about her passion for dance!
Q) How did you become interested in dance?
A) My mum enrolled me in dance when I was 4 years old because my brother and sister were already dancing and I wanted to dance like them.
Q) What do you feel is the biggest lesson you learned from growing up as a dancer?
A) The biggest lesson I have learned is how to work as a team and how important it is to support one another
Q) What is your background in dance/childhood education? What did you learn from this experience that you apply in the studio?
A) I started dancing at the age of 4 and competing at the age of 7. I competed in all areas such as jazz, tap, acro, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, ballet and musical theatre until I graduated at the age of 17. I also attended an arts high school majoring in dance where we specialized in modern and ballet technique. I then went on to college and successfully received my Early Childhood Education diploma. I have also received a number of different certifications including pre-natal yoga instructor, post-natal yoga instructor, first aid, Acrobatic Arts Mod 1 and ADAPT (year 1 and 2) and continue to search for new trainings to attend!
Q) What is your favourite part of teaching dance?
A) My favourite part of teaching is watching the students grow. It is an incredible moment when one of your students has worked on something for so long and finally achieves their goal and I can’t wait to work with all of the FDC dancers.
Q) Why did you choose Footprints Dance Centre?
A) I chose Footprints Dance Centre because it’s small, the students are hardworking and overall a wonderful studio to be apart of. Everyone that attends FDC whether it be parents, teachers or students are friendly and welcoming and I am looking forward to September.
Q) What do you want your students to have learned by the end of the year?
A) I want them to build on their technique and skills and also to be strong and confident dancers.
Q) What are you most looking forward to this year?
A) I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students and FDC families!
Here’s to a great year dancers!
