As we welcome Miss Olivia’s little bundle of joy into the world we are excited to also welcome Miss Jenna to the Footprints Family. Each one of our dance teachers have done a little Q&A to help you get to know them better. In this blog post you will meet Miss Jenna!
Jenna MacNeil has loved dance for as long as she can remember, she trained for sixteen years and has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Devised theatre from York University. Devised Theatre allowed her to study movement and performance which lead to her receiving jobs choreographing and dancing in the Toronto and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Jenna was awarded a scholarship in 2012 which allowed her to attend a New York City dance intensive where she was given the opportunity to be taught by The Rockettes, Choreographers from “Smash” and the Broadway hit, “The Newsies.”
Check out Miss Lainy’s Q&A with Miss Jenna below to learn a bit more about her passion for dance!
Q) How did you become interested in dance?
I became interested in dance when my older sister started dancing, she was so good at it and had so much fun I knew I wanted to be apart of it.
Q) What do you feel is the biggest lesson you learned from growing up as a dancer?
I’ve learned how important self care is, how to listen to my body and if I am hurt that means not to push myself but take the time to recover.
Q) What is your background in dance/childhood education?
I trained for 16 years at the studio where I met Miss Lainy, assisted dance lessons and became a certified Personal Trainer to further my knowledge of the human body.
Q) What is your favourite part of teaching dance?
My favourite part of teaching dance is seeing the students have fun, or the light in their eyes when they work hard/practice and see it pay off.
Q) Why did you choose Footprints Dance Centre?
It chose me and because Miss Lainy is my favourite Lainy ever.
Q) What do you want your students to have learned by the end of the year?
By the end of the year I want my students to learn how to use both technique and style and further develop their individual sense of style as a dancer.
Q) What are you most looking forward to this year?
Getting to know the students and making some great memories with them!
