Now that April Showers are behind us and May flowers are blooming all around us here in Woodstock. It’s time for parents to start planning for Summer! We have asked our studio moms for some of their tips and tricks on how to make the most of summer for your kiddos.
The kids are looking forward to summer break as soon as March Break is over. But how do you match the hype for your kiddos without breaking the bank and without taking 54 of the 60 days of summer vacation off? We have some fun quick tips for you!
1) Make a Bucket List!
This is my most favourite time of the year to make a bucket list. Every year since we have been together Sean and I have made a Summer Bucket List of things we want to do over the summer. Things that almost always make an appearance on our list are:
- Picnic
- Toronto Island
- Beach
- PJ Day
- Concert
The options for summer fun are limitless. By creating a bucket list of things your family wants to do over the summer you always have something to refer to on one of those “I’m bored” days. You can even cheat a little and put some of those “Honey-Do” Items on the list too. Why not make a family affair of cleaning out the back shed or putting in that new flower garden. Let your minds wander and include all the ideas big and small on your list!
2) Be a Tourist in Your Own Town!
This can be so fun! Woodstock and surrounding areas have so many good little nooks and crannies to discover. Have you ever actually been to the Woodstock Art Gallery or checked out what Theatre Woodstock is up to? There are so many great places to explore in Oxford County. But if you do go to Guns Hill Cheese and take a tour be sure to bring back Miss Lainy some of their Five Brothers Cheese!
3) Volunteer!
At Footprints we know how important it is to volunteer our time into the community. Why not call up the animal shelter and see if they need any help with dog walking. Or visit a senior centre and see where they can need some help. The possibilities are endless in Oxford County. Just reach out!
4) Surprise Them!
It’s no surprise that all kids LOVE surprises. Now it doesn’t have to be a big crazy trip to the water park. It can be as simple as an impromptu trip to get ice cream! Or to the garden centre to pick out some new flowers for that backyard project.
5) Sign Them Up for Camp!
If you can’t get that extra week of holidays and you don’t want the kiddos stuck at home for another week, bring them by for a week of awesome camp with us! Our Summer Camps include all kinds of things – from dance (duh!) to crafts to an end-of-week performance! There is something for all of our little dancers at camp.
