I cannot believe it is nearly the end of this program! The past seven weeks with our Footprints Littles were amazing and they have come so far through dance! In class we have been working on different dance styles focusing in on hip-hop and musical theatre. The kiddos have been working extremely hard on their dance technique and have certainly settled in to the routine of dance class.
I am really impressed on how fast our Footprints Littles catch on to new steps and choreography. At the beginning of this program not a lot of these dancers had experience in dance and were nervous to try out new steps. Now they can do running pas de bourres and their L.A. walks with extremely sassy faces. Their ability and willingness to participate truly exemplifies the confidence boosting power of dance. My hope is that these girls will remember the moments that they told me that they “can’t” do something. (Which of course is a big no-no in dance class!) But then they just tried that dance step, and guess what they did it! That is one of the very most important lessons you can learn at Footprints, “You CAN do it!”
As a part of Footprints tradition we also had our Footprints Littles paint their feet and create their footprint plaque. It’s Footprints Dance Centre’s tradition to paint a footprint each year for every student, which includes the Big Brother Big Sisters Littles. They are officially a part of the Footprints Family. Through the duration of the 8 weeks they have learned life skills that come along with dance and mark them as a part of our Footprints Family. Our Footprints Littles have learned respect, teamwork and dedication as well as increased their self-confidence and self-discipline.
We have been working on a variety of dance combinations. Specifically, a Hip Hop and also Musical Theater style combo that we are excited to present during our last class. We are super proud to be able to give our Footprints Littles the true stage experience with their final presentation – personalised invitations for their parents, fabulous costumes and stage ready hair!
At the end of this program I honestly have to say the most memorable part of the class is when we do a game of freeze dance. When a song comes up like “JuJu on the Beat” or “Watch Me Whip,” everyone is just laughing and having so much fun. Getting to see the smiles on their faces and hearing seeing them so happy creates this amazing environment that I will greatly miss.
