Can you believe we are already into February?! This year has been going by so quickly! We are so proud of all of our dancers and dance families who made the transition to online dance classes with us this season. Thank you for continuing to trust FDC with your child’s dance education.

As we continue online, we are still excited to bring some of our normal February fun into the virtual world. We will continue our red, white and pink dress up week for Valentines day and even be bringing Teacup and Tulips Birthday party online for all to celebrate! Just because we are online doesn’t mean we can’t have fun!

Class Delivery:

All classes will continue to be delivered in an online format due to the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. All of your online classes will be accessible through your parent portal. You can watch this quick video to see how to access your online classes. Login to your parent portal here.

Absences:

Please continue to keep the studio informed with any absences your child may have. You can log these absences through your parent portal, or just email the studio to let us know. With the Covid-19 virus rampant throughout our region, we want to be sure that our dancers are staying safe and healthy!

Monthly Intention: Love

Each month of our dancing year will highlight one of those ‘life lessons’ that dance gives us. This month’s intention is Love. We are super excited to be putting on our third annual Share the Love Social Media Contest! Throughout the month of February we will be putting together some extra events and ideas for our dance family to express Love.

Teacup/Tulip Birthday Party:

Dancers in our Teacup and Tulip programs are invited to celebrate Teacup and Tulip’s Birthdays on Saturday February 20 from 10:45-11:30am. This event is put on to support Oxford County Animal Rescue.

Registration for this event is available through your parent portal in the “Online Sessions” tab. There is a $5.00 fee to register for the event that will be donated to the Oxford County Animal Rescue. If you would like to donate above the $5.00 fee, you can send an e-transfer to the studio email (please put Oxford County Animal Rescue in the message field), or physical items can be dropped off to the studio on any Wednesday between 2:30-6:30pm leading up to the party. Please call the studio (519-532-4905) so our receptionist can run down and grab the curbside drop-off.

Fancy Frozen Feet Princess Lessons:

We are excited to launch an exclusive four-week online dance class geared towards dancers ages 2-6 called Fancy Frozen Feet – Princess Lessons! And I bet you can you guess which princess we will be theming around for this session. She’s the queen of “letting it go” and her little sister loves to build snowmen who like warm hugs!

This four-week online dance class is geared towards children ages 2-6 and will get your little one up and dancing. The princess lessons will introduce your little dancer to ballet, tap and acro dance skills through the magic of Frozen.

Classes will take place on Saturday mornings from 10:00-10:30am on Zoom from February 6-27. During our last lesson on Saturday February 27, we will be joined by the Snow Queen herself for a coronation celebration and dance party!

The four-week session is $50.00 (HST incl). Classes begin February 6, so register today through your parent portal!

Punky & Funky Popstar Lessons:

We heard our 7-12 year old dancers were getting a little jealous of their younger siblings getting to have princess lessons. So we have come up with a fun four-week course designed for our 7-12 year old dancers to get a taste of the popstar life! If your pre-tween loves JoJo Siwa, Taylor Swift or Descendants, this will be the perfect online class to break up some of their lockdown-ugh!

This four-week online dance class is geared towards children ages 7-12 and will get your kiddo up and dancing. Our Punky & Funky Popstar Lessons will introduce your dancer to jazz, hip-hop and musical theatre, while having a little time for crafts and important popstar lessons!

Classes will take place on Saturday mornings from 9:45-10:30am on Zoom from February 6-27. During our last lesson on Saturday February 27, families will be invited to watch the show and join-in on a family dance party!

The four-week session is $50.00 (HST incl). Classes begin February 6, so register today through your parent portal!

T-Shirt Design Contest:

As the lockdown continues, we know our dancers have some creativity bursting out of them! Each season we put out our spring clothing order, but this year we wanted to add something extra to reflect these crazy Zoom dance classes.

Dancers can download our T-Shirt Design Contest PDF and submit their designs via email until February 25. We are looking for designs to reflect the studio, zoom classes, and/or lockdown life.

Our staff will review the submitted designs and we will post the winner on our social media accounts at the end of February. The winner of the design contest will receive their t-shirt free of charge. The winning design will also be available for purchase in our spring clothing order!

Recital Update:

We would love to tell you that with absolute certainty HOW are recital will take place. Unfortunately, our crystal balls are not shining too bright right now. Therefore all of these recital plans will be closely monitored and we will confirm which option will be followed through with at a closer date. Depending on public health guidelines at the time of recital (June), we will create our recital through one of the following formats:

OPTION 1 –  Recorded Virtual Recital
All classes would perform their recital routine in the studio, recorded and edited by professionals. All videos would be compiled into a big recital video. The video would be released online behind a paywall (projected at $25/viewing link). There would be no audience allowed in the building during recording. Option to attend an outdoor viewing party at the Drive-In. The recording process would be dependent on being allowed a minimum of 10 people inside of our facility. Dancers will perform in masks and be socially distant as per their choreography. (This would be similar to our Nutty Nutcracker experience)

OPTION 2 – At Home Filming Virtual Recital
Each dancer would record them doing their dance individually. Videos would be sent into the studio to be compiled into a big recital. The video would be released online behind a paywall (projected at $25/viewing link). Option to attend an outdoor viewing party at the Drive-In. (This would be similar to our “Lemonade” 2020 recital)

OPTION 3 – Outdoor Virtual Recital
All classes would perform their recital routine at an outdoor venue. There would be a small audience permitted (no more than the immediate family allowed). There would be ticket fees to attend the event. The performance would be recorded and edited by professionals. All videos would be compiled into a big recital. The video would be available as a DVD or Blue-Ray (no live stream link). This option becomes heavily dependent on permits, weather kindness and expense to rent/build a stage, lighting/sound equipment, etc. There are many variables outside of our control in this situation. This event may appear as the “most like normal recital” but it also has the highest chance of being cancelled due to things outside of our control.

OPTION 4 – Zoom Showcase
The last week of classes invite all family members to join us on Zoom during their class. Dancers perform in their costumes. Family members can observe the entire class online. This option could also be combined with Options 1-3.
