At Footprints Dance Centre we are proud to be one of the only studios in Woodstock that requires a dress code. There are many dance classes that allow freedom in attire, but most reputable dance studios will have specific dress codes in place. A proper dress code for dancers is not just for seeing dance technique but also aids our dancers to better prepare for their futures, whether inside or out of the studio.

Dress Code for Dance Technique

First and foremost our dress code for each level enables our dance teachers to clearly see our dancers’ bodies. It is incredibly important in dance to be aware of body tendencies such as alignment, posture and placement. Having our dancers wear the correct attire in class, our teachers are able to see their bodies and give corrections to help maintain their health and safety.

Dress Code for Mindset

It is incredibly important to us at Footprints Dance Centre that we maintain our high standard of excellence from our recreational program to our performance program and our exam and competitive programs. By requiring our dancers to be dressed ready and respectfully for class we aim to instill a structured mindset for class. When in class our dancers aren’t distracted –  pulling their t-shirt down while stretching or marking up the floors with inappropriate footwear – because they have the appropriate dance wear for the class they are in. This helps our dancers to stay on task during class leading to better technique and training.

Dress Code for the Future

Our mission is not to just educate your child on how to dance, but to also be a better citizen of the world. By instilling values of respect, team bonding and structure through our dress code we help to better prepare our dancers for their futures. By showing up to class with their hair up and dress code complete, our dancers demonstrate respect to not just their teachers, but to their fellow dancers and the greater Footprints Family. By dressing all of our dancers in the same guidelines we hope to foster a community that focuses on team and equality for all of our dancers. And of course, this structure helps to prepare them for future schools or jobs that may require a dress code as well.

We are so happy to be able to provide all of our dress code items for sale from within the studio. This allows us to ensure that your dancer receives exactly what you need for class. No humming or hawing at the dance wear store hoping that you picked the right thing. We are also happy to provide a buy/sell/trade list of gently used items within the studio that are all dress code approved. Because dance wear is generally tight fitting, children grow out of it, which means you can find second hand items in excellent condition, with very little wear – right in the studio!
