At Footprints Dance Centre, right here in Woodstock, we are proud to offer our students a variety of programs to suit their needs. One of our newest programs is the Dance Exam Program and this year we are excited to introduce Ballet Exams in addition to our Jazz and Tap Exams. Our Ballet Exam Program is open to all dancers ages 6 and older.
We are excited to announce that we have become a member of International Dance Acclaim (IDA) to allow our students the opportunity to participate in Ballet Exams. The International Dance Acclaim will send in their experienced examiners to adjudicate our students based on the syllabi provided.
The IDA’s syllabi allow for both the recital level dancer and competitive dancer to excel. By providing two tiers to each level of the syllabi, we are able to ensure that all of our dancers are able to work at a level that is appropriate for their personal dance history, experience and age. Upon the successful completion of each level, each dancer will be awarded a graded certificate and medal for their Ballet Exam.
At Footprints we believe in training our dancers for their best success. In order to prepare for their Ballet Exams dancers are required to attend one extra rehearsal a week to learn and perfect their syllabus work. This class allows our ballet exam students the time to focus on not only improving their technical work but to also enhance performance quality and build up stamina for their big day.

The exam day runs as a closed studio examination right at our own facility (no extra travel!) on a special day arranged by the studio and IDA. Students will enter the dance room and perform their syllabus work for the IDA examiner. At Footprints, we love to take advantage of having these brilliant master teachers in our space and often host a Master Workshop with the examiner for the end of the exam day. This way your dancer gets to learn directly from the examiner! At the conclusion of the day awards will be presented with detailed notes from the examiner.
You may be wondering why your dancer may need to take a Dance Exam. Dance Exams are an excellent way for your dancer to be guided through a standard syllabus which provides them a goal to work towards and the building blocks necessary to achieve that goal. Dance exams allow your dancer to delve deeper into the world of dance and provides accountability to their training. Your dancer will also develop improved physical training, goal setting, respect and discipline as well as confidence. Interested in learning more about why dance exams are so great? IDA uses props throughout their syllabus to ensure that all of the dancers have fun during their ballet exams.
