Here in Woodstock at Footprints, we believe that it is so incredibly important to offer all of our dancers, regardless of ability or financing, the opportunity to dance on a wider set of stages than just our recital stage. In order to make this happen we began our Performance Team Division. Our Performance Team Division is open to any of our dancers over the age of 5 who are excited to perform all over Oxford County.
Our Performance Team Program is built upon three of our core values:
1) Commitment to Community
At Footprints Dance Centre we are so passionate about giving back to our community. If it wasn’t for the wonderful and welcoming nature of Oxford County, we wouldn’t be where we are today. The community is what makes our studio such a vibrant and interesting place to be.
We also believe that it is our responsibility to teach our dancers the importance of giving back to the community. We don’t want our dancers to just shuffle-ball-change with no purpose, we want to inspire our dancers to become better citizens of our community. By performing throughout the community we hope to spread good cheer, awareness for our various causes and a passion for dance.
2) Inclusivity
Like I said before, this team is not about the dancer who can do 14 pirouettes or who can kick their leg past their head. This Team is for the dancer who is looking for a bit more time on stage. Or the dancer who may need a couple more times in front of a crowd to help boost their confidence. We all know that dance is one of the best ways to improve your child’s confidence!
3) Growth Mindset
We know that all of our dancers develop at different paces. We aim to be respectful of the developmental needs of all of our dancers. For us – it’s not so much about the product at the end of the term, but rather the process that allowed our dancers to achieve their best. Our Performance Team Division offers our dancers an additional way to demonstrate the growth of their learning.
We are proud to offer two terms of our Performance Team Division:
Holiday Spirit Squad – September-December
This Spirit Squad is open to all of our recreational and competitive students. Students will learn holiday themed routines to be performed throughout Oxford County and area. Venues often include the Woodstock Art Gallery, various retirement homes and other holiday themed events. This team also performs at our Annual Festivus Party!
Summer Sass – April- Mid-August
The Summer Spirit Squad runs from April- mid August and is open to all of our recreational and competitive students. Students will learn specially choreographed routines reflecting a chosen theme. Past themes include Beach Party and Canada 150. This team will perform at various summer festivals throughout Oxford County as well as at charity events.
