Wingman for Dance inspires empathy, compassion, kindness and most importantly, acceptance of all children regardless of any perceived differences. Each month in the studio we will be incorporating Wingman for Dance activities within all of our dance  classes. This month we will be sharing what we love about dance!

January’s Wingman Week: Sharing the Love

This month we are remembering and sharing what we love about dance. This month we are back in lockdown and are having classes online. This can be so challenging for our students, staff and families. So we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to remember and share what they love about dance and about the studio.

This year is also an extra special year at the studio. The studio will be celebrating its 10th Recital at the end of this season! We have been busy brainstorming on a few different ways to celebrate this incredible milestone. Now, we don’t exactly know what form our 2022 Recital will take, but it will happen and we will have lots of reason to celebrate!

Each class was asked one of three questions:

  • Why do you love to dance?
  • What is your favourite memory related to dance?
  • What is your favourite routine from recitals of past?

Our dancers gave so many awesome answers to these questions. The discussion really helped to light our dancers back up and give them some hope for more fun times soon.

How Can Parents Help?

The Wingman for Dance core values emphasize the following and are great topics of discussion at home. Ask your dancers what real actions they think represent the five Core Values below:

Winning isn’t everything

Include everyone

Never shut someone down

Go above and beyond

Step up and take the lead

What is Wingman for Dance?

Wingman for Dance is a program from Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to the memory of Dylan Hockley. Dylan was one of the first grade victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Dylan was six years old and had autism. He could be his best when those around him would be his Wingman. You can find out more at www.wingmanleague.org. Also, find Wingman for Dance on Facebook and on Instagram.
