Our jazz and tap exam students were incredible on Friday June 22! These dancers have worked so hard all year to master all of their syllabus steps for their jazz and tap exams. Our ADAPT Jazz and Tap Exams were a huge success! We are so proud to be able to offer all of our dancers the opportunity to work towards their dance examinations through the ADAPT syllabus.
The ADAPT syllabus was founded by Mr. and Mrs. Foley. The goal of ADAPT is to provide dance examinations that provide a strong, technical foundation for not just the pre-professional dancer but also for the once a week recreational dancer. This year ADAPT proudly celebrates its 35th anniversary and can be found in over 175 dance studios across the country as well as in the USA, Hong Kong and Indonesia.
Our little Woodstock dance studio played host to Miss Angela Prosser and Miss Candace Jennings as our ADAPT examiners for this set of dance examinations. Miss Angela was raised and trained within the original ADAPT family. Now as a studio owner of Hoofers Performing Arts she continues the ADAPT legacy. Miss Candace began her training with the original ADAPT family and has continued sharing her love of dance in the professional world. She has had the pleasure of working on The National Ballet of Canada’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and choreographed the premiere of Ragtime the Musical for London’s West End which was nominated for 8 Oliver Awards. She was also nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award for outstanding Choreography for her work on Soulpepper Theatre’s “Oh What A Lovely War” and nominated for an IRNE Best Choreography Award in Boston for “Ragtime The Musical”.
With Miss Angela and Miss Candace’s incredible reputations our dancers were a little nervous and intimated for this special event. Nevertheless, they performed with all of the grace and charm that makes them such excellent dancers. Our students were adjudicated in various levels according to their abilities in both jazz and/or tap. In the ADAPT syllabus our dancers performed their set exercises with technical excellence and also showed how well they can perform under pressure when learning the unseen exercises.
After the formal examinations were complete it was time for some lunch and then for master classes with Miss Angela.
Giving our students an opportunity to learn from their examiners is so incredibly important to us at Footprints Dance Centre. During masterclasses students take a regular dance class from their examiner. This gives the dancers an opportunity to not just be judged by their examiner but to learn and be inspired from them. Our dancers took class from Miss Angela and left their classes with a greater appreciation and understanding of their jazz and/or tap training.
The awards ceremony was open to family and friends to watch their dancers’ achievements. Each dancer received their student report card with their level of accomplishment indicated on it for their dance examination. Dancers could receive marks ranging from fail, pass, pass plus, commended, commended plus, highly commended, and highly commended plus. We are pleased to say that all of our dancers were more than successful in their dance examinations this year in Woodstock!
At Footprints we believe that it is so incredibly important to give our students opportunities to learn about the greater world of dance and to connect their experience in dance to their futures. Dance exams are an excellent way for students to not just gain greater technical training but to also give them skills to handle high pressure environments like job interviews and performance evaluations.
