It takes a village to train a dancer!

Dance conventions are always humbling and inspiring experiences for any dancer. It is so inspiring to be in a big, collective space, surrounded by aspiring fellow dancers with the same goals and passion as yourself. The energy in a space like this is so uplifting! There are so many people to meet and so many new things to learn!

The best thing about dance workshops is the opportunity to learn from top-of-their-game professionals! Every great dance teacher has their own unique style, their own creative flair, and their own varying experiences in the field of dance. The world of professional dance is VAST and endless! Unique experiences and different training backgrounds give professional dance teachers their own way of explaining the complex concepts of dance technique. Every dancer (and human) learns differently, so it is incredibly beneficial for aspiring dancers to be exposed to new teachers/choreographers who explain things differently than what the dancer is used to.

On November 13th, Footprints Dance Centre’s Competitive team had the opportunity to attend a fantastic dance training workshop called Dance Attack in London, ON, and they had a BLAST! This year, the convention hosted the following fabulous dance professionals as guest teachers of the event:

Jay T Schramek (Jazz/Technique Specialist):
Jay T is a Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated performer, educator and adjudicator. His twenty-five year teaching career spans Canada’s most prestigious post-secondary arts institutions and dozens of dance studios.

Ashley Schofield (Contemporary Specialist):
Ashley Schofield is a passionate, motivated choreographer and teacher from Toronto, ON and has danced and performed for over twenty years. Miss Schofield trained across North America with notable teachers and choreographers.

Emily Einsmann (Jazz/Technique Specialist):
Emily Einsmann’s versatility forges the bonds between technique and artistry, and her co-existing levels of success in both the commercial industry and the contemporary dance world set her apart.

Tiffany Beveridge (Hip-Hop Specialist):
Tiffany is the Owner and Director of CSOD and has had the opportunity to dance for artists such as Shania Twain, Snoop Dogg, Genuwine and Black Eyed Peas to name a few. She has also won many overall and special awards with her creative concepts and fun choreography!

This year’s Dance Attack workshop did not disappoint! Our dancers had an awesome time!

Our very own Emerald Competitive Dancer, Simone St. Amand even won a scholarship during Jay T’s technique class!

We are so proud of all of our dancers who attended the workshop to kickstart their learning. Our dancers were courteous, attentive, motivated, and represented our studio beautifully!

We can’t wait for the next workshop!
