Intermediate (Ages 11-13)
Our Intermediate Dance Program supports pre-teens ages 11-13 to explore their love of dance and make new friends in our engaging dance classes. Whether your 11-13-year-old has dance experience or not, they will be supported in their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development by our certified, adult dance instructors. Intermediate dancers will gain confidence, make lasting friendships and become leaders in our community.
Our Intermediate Dance classes are delivered with the commitment to our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Documents for each dance genre. Your 11-13-year-old will be challenged with dance steps, terminology, improvisation and age-appropriate choreography.
All dancers in our Intermediate program have the opportunity to participate in our year-end show. By the end of the year your dancer will grace the stage in an age-appropriate costume exciting the audience with their precision and dynamic dance moves.
Intermediate dancers also have the opportunity to partake in additional studio programs and experiences such as our Assistant Leadership Program, and our Teen Bonding Days like spa nights, movie nights, etc.
Class Offerings
2024/25 Schedule: Classes run from the week of Sept 9, 2024 – May 31, 2025.
Intermediate Ballet – Thursday 8:00-8:45pm
Pre-Pointe (Must have teacher approval) – Thursday 8:00-8:30pm
From barre work and across-the-floor work, our Intermediate Ballet classes teach classical ballet technique to students of all genders and abilities. Ballet lessons will teach your 11-13-year-old to move with grace, precision and strength. Dancers in this level will focus on proper alignment, lift, turnout, terminology and style in their ballet work.
Our ballet lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the International Dance Acclaim syllabus. Dancers at the intermediate level are also eligible to be a part of our ballet exam program.

Female: Classic Tank Bodysuit in Royal, Wrap Skirt in Black, Footed Tights in Pink, Stretch Canvas Ballet Shoe in Pink
Male: Fitted White T-Shirt, Black Shorts, Stretch Canvas Ballet Shoe in Black
All of our Intermediate Dancers have a required dress code that must be followed. We are happy to offer all dress code items in the studio for easy access and affordability.

Intermediate Jazz – Wednesday 8:00-8:45pm
Our Intermediate Jazz classes are a perfect fit for 11-13-year-olds who have lots of energy, love to move quickly and enjoy a challenge! Jazz dance is a fast and upbeat style of dance that incorporates large jumps and turns. Jazz lessons will teach your 11-13-year-old to develop their control, strength and flexibility in an upbeat age-appropriate class.
Our jazz lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers syllabus created by Mr. Brian Foley. Dancers at the intermediate level are also eligible to a part of our jazz exam program.

Intermediate Tap – Tuesday 7:45-8:30pm
If your 11-13-year-old has a mind for music, then our Intermediate Tap classes are a perfect fit! Dancers in our Intermediate Tap classes will be challenged with intricate foot movements to create exciting and percussive rhythm patterns. Tap lessons will teach your 11-13-year-old coordination, timing and rhythm in an upbeat age-appropriate class.
Our tap lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers syllabus created by Mr. Brian Foley. Dancers at the intermediate level are also eligible to a part of our tap exam program.

Intermediate Hip-Hop – Thursday 6:30-7:15pm
If your 11-13-year-old is constantly moving and grooving to Top 40 Hits or loves to learn Tik Tok dances, then hip-hop will be a perfect for them! Dancers in our Intermediate Hip-Hop class must have A LOT of energy and want to have A TON of fun! Our Intermediate Hip-Hop classes combine both dance and music into a fast-paced and energetic class to engage our dancers physically and socially. Your 11-13-year-old will have the opportunity to flex their style and swag in this cool and age-appropriate dance class.
Our hip-hop lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the trends of today.

Intermediate Acro – Tuesday 7:00-7:45pm
If your 11-13-year-old used to do gymnastics or loves doing cartwheels in the backyard, then this is the perfect class for them! Our Intermediate Acro classes offer a unique and high-energy approach to the wonderful combination of jazz and gymnastics we call acro. In our Intermediate Acro classes, your 11-13-year-old will be introduced to acro movements like walking-handstands, partner cartwheels, front and back walk-overs and rolls. Your 11-13-year-old will develop their flexibility, strength and balance in this exciting, dynamic and age-appropriate dance class.
Prior experience in gymnastics or acro dance is recommended for this class. Please reach out to us if you are unsure if this class would be a good fit for your child. Please be aware that acro class placement is skill dependent. If your dancer is above the average of the class we may recommend they move up to the senior class, or reversely, if they are below the average of the class we may recommend they move down to the junior level.

Intermediate Musical Theatre – Thursday 8:00-8:45pm
If your 11-13-year-old loves drama class, knows all the words to Mamma Mia or won’t stop talking about Hamilton The Musical, then this is the perfect class for them! Our Musical Theatre classes will explore the magnificent world of Broadway dance. Your 11-13-year-old will explore different musicals each month in this fun, upbeat and age-appropriate dance class.
Our musical theatre lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers Jazz syllabus created by Mr. Brian Foley.

Intermediate Lyrical – Wednesday 7:15-8:00pm
Our Intermediate Lyrical classes are a perfect fit for 11-13-year-olds who love storytelling, drama and dance. Lyrical dance combines the best of ballet and jazz to create a breath-taking genre of its own. Lyrical lessons will teach your 11-13-year-old storytelling, balance, flexibility and grace.
Our lyrical lessons follow our Footprints Dance Centre Curriculum Requirements influenced by the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers Jazz syllabus created by Mr. Brian Foley and the International Dance Acclaim ballet syllabus.
